Navigating Israel Education in Times of Conflict
Unpacked for Educators collaborated with SAR High School in NYC to host 80 educators from the tri-state area to learn and think about the challenges and opportunities facing schools today. I was so honored to be asked to present and to share my newest publication: “Modern Israel Standards and Benchmarks: Aligning Your Curriculum for RIgor, Depth and Excellence.”
We explored two of the six standards, and considered what is being taught well, which benchmakrs could be improved upon, and where programs have gaps in their offerings.
Using a holistic approach, we thought about units and projects that already exist within most programs, and how to amplify those using Israel education, so that when conflicts, wars and other challenges occur, students have a strong basis of Israel literacy from which they can draw upon.
I left the conference hopeful that schools will no longer assume that hiring wonderfully talented teachers will result in an intentional, spiral curriculum, and now they have the tools to ensure it!
